A concept for a future version of 3dsmax

I had an idea the other day and I’ll try come up with a watered down scriptable version (which I think I can do but haven’t quite got there yet)….

I keep getting frustrated with screen real-estate in 3dsmax, far too many floating dialogs getting in the way, now I know the obvious answer would be to have extra monitors, but even then you can run out of room, and it’s not healthy to be straining your neck constantly looking across at different monitors all day.

So here’s the current problem…..

Even with just a few dialogs you’ve started to clog up your screen and lose ability to see what you’re working on…..

Now imagine if we could contain that to a virtual viewport window….

And then have the ability to Zoom in and out, so you could see loads of dialog boxes floating around in an infinite space….

If you were to click on one of the dialogs it would goto 100% size…..

Sadly this is all dreaming and sadly it is probably not even possible with the current 3dsmax architecture… I do have cunning ideas on using Helium to make a cut-down simplified version though, watch this space….

Makes perfect sense to me, Dave. It’d work past the limitations of screen real estate in exactly the same way the Slate material editor works past the limitations of the compact meditor.
